when the moon found the sun, he looked like he was barely hanging on
A soft sigh escaped from between Spencer’s lips as his hazel eyes roved over the grounds, washed in the reds, oranges, and yellows of the approaching sunset. The senior boy was rather bored as he sat in his room, elbows propped against the window sill, hands holding his head up as he looked out the window. He swiveled around in the rolly chair to face his room, looking around at the white walls that caused a shiver to run down his spine. He hated the fact that there were so many factors of the riding academy that were similar to those of a prison. He despised that the place felt so much like a jail, a place to keep the kids in place. Okay, so being a rehabilitation center was its main function, and, by being such, it generally had to keep them in place. But it didn’t have to have white walls everywhere, it didn’t have to seem so jail-like. But it did. And the boy just disliked that a lot.
Feeling the need to just get out and leave the school, buildings and campus both, the young man jumped out of his chair, eyes roaming about to figure things to take with him. Hazel eyes landing on his keys, phone, and blue iPod nano, he stuck the three items in the pockets of his black jeans, pulling on one of his hats, this one a cute gray one. Hey, he loved his hats, and it was rare to see him without one. Taking another look around the room, his eyes found his acoustic guitar setting in its stand in the corner. Suddenly struck with an idea, he picked up the acoustic Gibson and put it into the guitar case made of some sort of material. He didn’t know what it was made of; he didn’t go around looking at the tags of things to find the exact material of things. Spence definitely liked this case better than the bulky plastic one that was lying back at his house. With this one, he could carry it across his back, and that was definitely easier than carrying it by his side.
Hoisting the bag across his back, the musician took one final look around the room before slipping into his DC shoes, bending over to tie them. Straightening up, he pulled out his iPod, turned it on, and placed the earbuds into his ear, letting the music fill them as he placed it back in his pocket. The senior then exited the dorm room, closing the door behind him. Humming softly, he walked through the building, heading for the outside.
As he walked, his hands lightly played out the beat to whatever song he happened to be listening to at the time. Besides being a guitarist, he also played the keyboard and drums, plus he could sing quite well, though he barely thought so, due to his self-esteem issues. He made sure his precious guitar didn’t hit anything on the way out, however. He would be killed if his guitar was damaged, it cost a pretty penny, being a Gibson, one of the best guitar companies out there. Okay, so he didn’t buy the instrument himself, his parents did. But if he broke it, they’d be extremely pissed, and he didn’t want to have them on his tail. Especially his father, the man that Spencer loathed more than any other person.
It was with good reason that the senior musician hated his father (he never thought of the man as “dad”). It was because the loathsome person had abused Spencer when the boy was younger. For no good reason, too. The alcoholic had just simply disliked his middle child and decided to verbally and physically abuse the kid. It was because the verbal abuse that Spence had his self-esteem issues, due to his father thinking him worthless and talentless, though he had proven that he could sing and was rather proficient at playing piano at the time. Nonetheless, his father took it upon him to put down his middle child, and it was the only attention the boy received for the most part, due to suffering from Middle Child Syndrome. And it was all true, he didn’t get too much attention from his parents, and the attention he did receive wasn’t good. Lovely life he led, huh?
It was because of his childhood Spencer was feeling a bit bad as he exited the school gates, the grounds to go into the surrounding town. Within the grounds, he was nearly untouchable by his father. The man wouldn’t be able to harm him within its boundaries. Out here, though, in the town, the man could get to him. He could find and hurt him, and it was because of that, Spencer didn’t particularly like going to the town. It was bad luck that the school was located near his house, near the city he lived in, Norfolk. Because of the nearness, he always had that thought that his father would be able to find him, and that frightened him, for his father was, and is, the only man he currently feared. Sure, there may be more in the future, but, currently, he was only frightened of the male that had helped create him.
The musician walked towards the outskirts of the town, towards the beach, attracting interested glances due to the big black guitar case strung across his back. Sitting on a piece of concrete at the edge of the sand (opposite the water, of course) Spencer took off his shoes, instantly wishing he had brought a pair of sandals or flip flops or something. Something that was better for the sand. Oh well, he liked his DC shoes just fine, and it wasn’t like they’d get damaged by the sand. Picking them, and his socks which he had stuffed in the shoes, up, he walked off towards the more populated area of the beach by the single pier, pulling out his earbuds and turning off his iPod as he did so, quickly replacing the item, once again, in his pocket.
Finally arriving at his destination, he set down his shoes and unzipped the guitar bag, pulling out the light brown guitar. Setting aside the black case, Spencer plopped down in the sand, not minding it one bit, and carefully placed the guitar in his lap, situating it so that it was comfortable before tuning it. Recently, he hadn’t been playing his acoustic, instead opting for the electric guitars in the music room, so his beautiful Gibson acoustic had fallen out of tune. Lucky for him, however, he didn’t really need a tuner and could tune by ear. That done, he didn’t actually start paying anything. Instead, his fingers moved across the fret board, playing random notes and chords as he strummed thoughtfully. He could play some of his own songs, though it was only music, and no words, not being a lyricist himself. Sure, if he really tried, he could probably make some words to it, but he’d leave the words to those who could write them, and do so well.
Suddenly, however, his fingers moved with a purpose, a song to play popping into his head. Eyes closed, he sang softly to the song. ”When the moon fell in love with the sun, all was golden in the sky, all was golden when the day met the night,” were the first softly sung words to fall from his lips as he sang “When the Day Met the Night” by Panic at the Disco. The lyrics he sang were soft, not wanting to disturb the peace, besides, he was out in the open. Because he had that low self-esteem, he’s also quite self-conscious, not wanting to publicize himself. He didn’t want to be too loud because he thought he wasn’t good at singing, and didn’t want to have to subject these other people to his horrid singing, thinking that they, too, would find him bad at singing, despite the fact that he was actually good.
But as the song progressed, the music-obsessed male couldn’t help but increase his voice in volume, not really realizing that he did so. The people around him turned, not really expecting there to be anything but guitar playing, but soon went back to their individual activities. They knew the difference between beggars and those that played just to play, and he obviously wasn’t begging. No, Spencer was completely lost in song, not paying attention as the red-orange sun slowly fell beneath the water as it set. He didn’t pay attention to the shrieks and squeals of laughter, to the raucous screams of the seagulls as they wheeled overhead. The senior didn’t even realize that a shadow of a person had fallen over him, standing nearby, seemingly interested. He was simply lost in the music, the sound of his guitar, and his singing, which was louder than he thought.

The silver LG Rumor smashed into the furthest wall whilst the seething teen was poised on the bed, using his knees to hold his skinny body up. His hand was still out in front of him from when he had thrown his cellphone across the room. A growl slipped out of his lips and he flopped back onto his bed, before standing up. As soon as he was on his feet, he needed to sit back down. Another sudden wave of dizziness and fatigue had struck. He pulled his legs up to his chest so he could rest his forehead on his knees, waiting for the feeling to pass. Like always, it did and then he was fine until another one hit. It also put an end to his little fit of anger momentairly. He picked his head back up off of his knees and stretched his legs out. He gave a weary sigh and pushed himself up off the bed. He stood there for a few minutes, before he ended up wrapping his arms around his bare torso. He wasn't trying to hide the fact that he looked like an emaciated horse, he was just down right cold. He was almost always cold, but it might of just been him growing up in New York and being used to the heat being on in his house all the time, and when he wasn't in his house there were street vents that gave off warm air. Here in Virginia the sea breeze made the place old all the time, and in the dorm, everytime he turned the heat up, it was turned down when he came back. Probably the staff doing random drug checks to make sure he didn't have anything.
Naturally, his soild black boxers rode low on his boney, stick-outish hips. Everything was stick-outish on him, and he didn't really care that people stared. Well, not really people, so much as his roommate, if he ever saw the guy. The only thing he knew about the guy was that his name was Dravis. It was also a given that he would probably be bigger and more filled out than Benjy. He finally crossed the room to where his cellphone layed on the floor. It wasn't broken, but it wasn't scratch free either. He snatched it up and reopened the text message once he slid it open to the keyboard. The message had been from his dad, and now that he was reading it again, it only made him mad..again. It turned out that his dad decided he was getting married to a women that Benjy had never met, but had heard about. The message also revealed that the only reason the women have never met Benjy was because she had seen him on the street and thought he would rob her blind. Alright, so that part made him laugh. He replied to the message as he wandered back to his bed, and hit send as he closed the keyboard; pitching it down onto the top blanket and watching as it bounced off and back onto the floor. A series of vulgur terms slide out of his lips as he stooped to pick it up and throw it back into the middle of the bed; it bounced on the top blanket again, but this time his dog, Nox, pounced on it to keep it from bouncing off, even though it shouldn't have.
The sight of the creme and tan dog trying to help made his temper melt away and he reached out to her, scratching behind her one floppy ear, before patting under her chin. He dragged his hand along the bed to grab his jeans, and stepped into them. He grabbed his belt next. It was just easier to put it on when he didn't have his shirt on. He ran his fingers over a section of cracked leather that tainted his otherwise smooth piano key belt. Finally he pulled his shirt down over his head, abit too roughly for his necks liking. He growled as the muscles in the side of his neck stung in protest. Stupid whiplash anyways. He shuffled to his dresser, pulling open the top drawer to get his low cut socks, and drag them onto his feet. He didn't need to hop around to keep his balance, he was a skater, he, along with the rest of his clique, were the definition of balance. He stepped into his shoes lastly, drapping his dog tags around his neck. Now all he needed were his cigarettes, skateboard, and cellphone. He found both of the smaller items and shove them into his front pockets; one for each. He dropped down onto his knees, pulling his new board out from under the bed. He jumped back up to his feet and turned, heading out the door, closing it once Nox was safely out. He fallowed her down the stairs; balancing the board on his head, though it always helped that he was still holding it with his hands.
Benjy put the board down once he was out of the lobby, and just rode along. He really wasn't in a 'trick' sort of mood, though he could do with a smoke. He kicked of the ground as he pulled the pack out and retrived one of the 'cancer sticks', lighting it with the lighter in the pack and then putting the whole deal back into his pocket. Again he kicked off, picking up more speed. He took a drag, before exhaling. He didn't really know where he was going, but he figured he'd know once he got there. He weaved through the loose crowd that was either flooding from the beach or heading into it. He gazed at the sand, and then at the american pit bull terrier as she raced onto the warm grains. Looked like he was spending time in the sun. He leaned back on the tail of the board to come to a stop, before stepping off all together and picking it up by the trucks, flicking away the filter of the done cigarette. He paused at the edge of the sand, looking from the grains that were just waiting to get into his DC shoes. He stepped out of them, pulling his socks off and then stuffing them into it. He continued to stare at his shoes. He only had one free hand and he would probably need it to throw a stick for Nox. He set down his board so he could tie the laces of his shoes together and then sling them over his shoulder, picking his board back up and venturing onto the warm sand.
The skinny teen let his dog lead the way, and like he had predicted, she found a stick and brought it hand, shoving her muzzle into his hand until he took it and pitched it down the beach. The game ensued for a few minutes until she found something much more interesting. Benjy's dark eyes fallowed Nox as she dropped the stick in the sand where he had thrown it, and then trotted over to another teen who was sitting in the sand, playing guitar. She didn't hesitate to flop down infront of him and lay her head on his knee; just like she did to Benjy when the black-haired boy would play. An amused look appeared on his face as he stopped where he was, and then fallowed his dog slowly. He didn't really like meeting new people, they all had there opinion on him, and most of them weren't nice. As he got closer, he heard that the older boy had started to sing along with his playing. He was most definatly better than Benjy was, but then again, Benjy's voice was still changing. Though even before he had started going through puberty he sounded horrible at singing anything; hence why he stuck to just instruments. He looked at Nox whose floppy ears had perked and were on the guitarist, clearly interested; her eyes were adoring, but then again, she adored most people. Benjy knew he should have probably told her to get her head off of the guy's knee, but for one reason or another, he didn't tell her anything, just kept listening, not really staring at strawberry blonde haired teen, but more at the sand infront of him.

Honestly, Spencer hated being bored, hated not having anything to do. It let his thoughts run free, and some of the thoughts he had weren’t good and led to worse thoughts, which could lead to thoughts of suicide, which could lead to another suicide attempt. Yeah, not good. The worse part is that he knew that it wasn’t good, but in the pits of a bad mood like that, he wouldn’t realize that suicide wasn’t a good option. He knew that from experience. Why else would he have attempted suicide when he was fifteen. And then a couple times after until his mom found out with a failed one at seventeen. Apparently, he just wasn’t meant to die those times he tried, for if he was, he would be dead long ago. Three years ago.
Late spring was his favorite season, and, having lived on the East Coast of Virginia his whole life, that favorite wasn’t going to change too soon. Well, that was a lie, seeing as how he’d probably have to leave soon, being in his senior year and having to graduate. But he hadn’t any current plans for leaving the area at the moment. But that was beside the point. The point was that he liked coastal Virginian late springs. It was warm, and not too hot out. There was still a possibility of cool days with the springs. That was one thing Spence loved about Creek Point; the weather was likable. Sure, it was only that way because he was born in the area, but it was better than having to move far away for different weather, though he wouldn’t mind that too much because he’d give just about anything to move away from his father. But that still wasn't the point, which was he was lucky to not have to attempt to adapt to this new weather, because he was born in the area and didn't have to move.
When Spencer stepped outside the school, he tipped his face up at the sky, staring at the oranges, pinks, reds, and yellows of the sky as the sun sank slowly down beyond the horizon. The boy now felt better as he was out of the imprisoning building, but the feeling still nagged at him as he was still within the campus walls. He had to get out of the whole campus to feel better, to not have that nagging imprisoned feeling. So he continued down the walkway until he went out the gate into the town proper.
While he no longer had that annoying feeling of being in a jail, he also felt more vulnerable out here, out in the town where anybody could see him. Where anybody, including his hated father, could just pop out at him, and scare him half to death. Which is why he stuck to the outskirts. Not outskirts like the bad places, where there were drug dealers and such, but the good outskirts. The ones where things were less fast-paced and more leisurely, and where he could feel more safe as he bobbed his head along with the music that played in his ear.
Sunset was absolutely, without a doubt, one of Spencer's favorite time of day, the others being twilight and nighttime. The rich, bright colors that accompanied the sun's setting were beautiful, and how the senior loved the bright colors. Many thought that sunset and sunrise were very similar, but Spencer knew better. The colors at sunrise were softer, more subdued than those at the sun's set. He was one of those bright colors kind of guys, really.
Music was pretty much Spence's world. He didn't know what he'd do without it, to be honest. Without the combination of drums, bass, guitar, and various other sound effects sounding in his ear, inspiring his own music. Of course, if music didn't exist, he wouldn't have any of his own to play, and, really, he didn't know what he'd do with his life if he didn't have it. Perhaps he'd be an accountant, well, besides the fact that he was no good at math. Maybe he'd be a visual artist of some sort, or maybe a writer. Maybe he wouldn't even have the same family, or the same situation. Maybe he'd be completely different. The senior didn't know, of course. But at least he did have music, and he doubted that would change anytime soon.
As he sat, strumming his guitar, he was lost in his own little world, no attention paid to everything around him. He didn't even notice the annoyance of the little grains of sand on the bottom of his feet, or the fact that about ten thousand of them would probably find their way under his clothes somehow. He sole concentration was on his fingers as they moved against the fretboard, and the careful strumming, and his singing as he sung the much loved song by one of his favorite bands.
Suddenly, however, around the middle of the song, he heard the approach of...something. Of course, he didn't pay much attention to it. Not until he felt a sudden weight on his knee. He abruptly stopped his playing and opened his eyes to look down at a dog staring up at him lovingly. A soft smile crossed his lips as he looked at the tan and cream-colored canine. Still holding the guitar by the fretboard, he used his other hand to pat the dog gently before starting to play again, singing softly once more. His eyes remained opened this time, and his voice raised quickly, and, though he was paying more attention, he still really didn't realize, or care, about that face. Which was a vast improvement, to be honest.
As he finished the song, having continued it after the dog's interruption, he noticed a shadow near him. Turning slightly, he noticed a black haired boy standing there, looking more at the dog than at him. "Oh, uhm, hi. Is this your dog?" Spencer mentally hit himself. What a weird way to start a conversation. A light blush covered his cheeks as he realized it. The senior pulled down his hat slightly, embarrassed by the fact, eyes big as he looked at the other boy. Biting his lip, he looked down at his lap before glancing back up. "Er, I'm Spencer, in any case," he told the boy, studying him a bit more closer. To be honest, the other boy was rather cute. Another blush covered the musically obsessed boy as he thought of this. He pulled off his hat, messing his hair up and fixing the bangs before placing it back on, waiting for the other person to say something; it was getting kind of awkward here.

At some point he had came back to reality and drifted over to sit down in the sand by Nox's back end. He sat with his knees pulled up to his chest, arms wrapped around his legs and his chin on the top of his knees. The shoes he had been carrying on his shoulder were now sitting on his board in the sand. He was content to just listen to the music, and listen to the other teen sing in his rather wonderful voice. It was just peaceful, and amazing, but it didn't keep his mind like he had hoped it would. He kept thinking back to the text message he had received in the morning. Not the part about his dad's fiance thinking he would rob her blind, but the fact that his Dad was remarrying. Benjy remembered watching his father go through the whole greiving process after his wife had died. It had been hard on the whole family of course, but Benjy's dad seemed to have took it worse. Though it might have just been that he had been in fourth grade when it had happened, so he didn't really understand at first, but it didn't take him long to realize his mother was never coming back.
It took Benjamin a second to realize why his cheeks felt wet, and when he finally figured it out he burried his face against his legs, letting the tears soak into the material of his jeans. Right now was simply the worst time to be crying. Infront of a stranger with even more strangers around, but he couldn't help it. No matter how much he wanted to stop the tears and the silent sobs that shook his frail body, they wouldn't stop. He didn't know why he had come to his newest conclusion at the present moment, but he did. He figured out that the reason his Dad was getting married again was because of he had forgotten about his first wife, and didn't love her anymore. Or that was what it seemed to Benjy, but that wasn't just what he was being tearful about. He hadn't thought about his mother in a long while, and now that he was crying about his dad not loving her anymore, she was front and center in his mind, and it hurt. It normally didn't hurt, but now it wrenched his heart painfully because his emotions were already raw.
Benjy stayed in his position for who knows how long, but he knew that he still wasn't done crying by the time he heared the other kid speak up. He was quiet for a good five minutes, and it got really akward, but he was trying to collect himself, and finally he did. He wiped his eyes with his hands, and gave a few sniffles, because crying always seemed to open up your sinus and making your nose run. "Yeah. Her names Nox, she loves music." His voice was thick and it was embarassing. Even more so then when it cracked and squeaked. He noticed the blush on Spencer's face, and that was all that was needed to draw his dark eyes onto his face and really take in his features. One word - gorgeous. He felt a blush of his own creep onto his pale face and he looked down to his dog, hoping that it would fade, but it didn't. He looked back up to the other teen, watching him play with his hair; it was a nice colour, and looked really soft. "Sorry about her." He mumbled, clearing his throat once he was done speaking, still trying to make it sound like he hadn't just had a breakdown like a two year old that dropped an ice cream cone.
He came across yet another realization and it made the blush that had started to disappear on his cheeks, flare right back up. "Benjamin. But I normally go by Benjy." Like always, he accent the 'ja' part of his name. Too many people wanted to pronouce it Benjermin, and that bugged him, especially when they were reading it off a paper or he had told them it. It was pronouced exactly how it was spelled, and he told people that all the time. Alot of times he'd tell them that, then go on to spell it. He'd get alot of wierd looks from the person, but that wasn't anything new. Again he rubbed his eyes, and looked down, watching Spencer through his eyelashes. Benjy wasn't trying to be coy or flirtatious or even seductive; even though the teen infront of him was really attractive, but shh, its a secrect. Benjy was trying to hide the fact that his eyes were bloodshot from crying and bloodshot from his smoking last night. And no, it wasn't cigarettes. He was trying to quit both of his habits, he really was, but habits were hard to break. Nox still laid with her head on the boys knee, but she kept stretching towards his until she could finally nuzzle her nose under it with a light whine. She loved music, attention, people, food, and lots of other things, but attention and people were her main two.

when the moon found the sun, he looked like he was barely hanging on
Spencer was oblivious to anything but his music, and the dog, as he played the last half of the song. He didn't even notice the other boy taking a seat next to him, even though he was sitting right next to him. Yeah, he could be a bit ditzy at times, and not noticing the other person was one of those times. He simply went on playing, playing for himself, and for the dog, who seemed, for some odd reason, to enjoy his voice and guitar playing, which he himself found less than amazing, despite his friends', especially Brianna's, constant insistence that he was wonderful. It was a result of his father's repeated teachings that he was worthless and bad at everything he did. So, even though he enjoyed playing and singing, he never felt that he was really good at it. That was just how his mind worked. Which was an odd place, believe me if you don't already. In any case, his sole concentration was on anything but the boy next to him, really, when he played. Which is why, when Spence finally did notice the other teen, he jumped rather violenty.
The senior wasn't that much of a jumpy guy, to be honest. Well, except where music was involved, mostly because his concentration was on the music, and not his surroundings, but other than that, he wasn't that jumpy. Okay, so he actually was, sue him. It wasn't like it was a totally bad thing. Except for the fact that he totally couldn't handle scary movies, seeing as how things often popped out in them. He didn't know how he got so jumpy. Okay, so maybe it had to do with the way his father sometimes popped out at him just when the boy, as a younger child, had thought he was safe from the man's wrath. And people popping out at him just bothered him, especially if they seemed to make a grab at him; Spencer usually shirked away from physical contact unless he initiated it, another thing that was a fault because of his father, the loathsome person physically beating his middle son. It was a horrid thing to do, not to mention verbally abusing the boy, leading to many consequences and problems with the senior. Including the fact that he had bad self-esteem, was rather jumpy, and had problems with physical contact, among other problems. Though he was getting better with it all. Somewhat, at least.
When Spencer looked over at the other boy, he noticed that the teen's cheeks were wet, which surprised him a great deal. Of all things, he didn't think some kid would be sitting next to him crying of all things. Grinning, smiling, laughing, glaring...any of those things seemed to be plausible to him, but crying?? It was an odd thing to look over to find, especially because this person had all of a sudden appeared by him, though he assumed it was because of the dog he was there in the first place. But that wasn't the point. This teen had just appeared and, out of the blue, started crying. Spencer didn't really know how to handle an emotional teenger, despite the fact that he really was one himself. It just didn't seem that way at the moment because nothing had made him particularly mad or sad recently. Chewing his lip, he looked at the dog, his eyes obviously saying he needed help. He didn't know how to deal with a stranger that was crying, and it made him nervous. Scared. Whatever word worked. Spencer was so confused, with this crying teen next to him, and a dog laying on his knee. Oh, what was he getting himself into?
There was a long, awkward pause after he asked his question. By taking a peek over at the other teen, Spence could tell the boy hadn't finished crying, which just made him feel more awkward. Like he was interfering with the other's life or something. The senior averted his eyes, gazing at the lowering sun as he waited for the boy's reply. If he ever gave one. Maybe the boy didn't hear him? Yeah, that had to be it. But as he opened his mouth to repeat his question, the boy moved, hands wiping away tears and a sniffle heard. Then he spoke, answering the question, voice thick with emotion. Well, didn't he feel the King of England? Not. He felt bad, somewhat, for making the other talk when he probably didn't want to, when he was so overcome by emotion. Biting his lip, he nodded, though he didn't know if the teen had seen it. "That's a pretty name. Though...a bit odd for a light-colored dog, if I remember right. Nox is like..dark or night, isn't it? Or maybe I'm just thinking up things....or maybe you have no clue what I'm talking about. Okay, shutting up now." A blush quickly covered Spencer's cheeks, and he ducked his head, wishing he could fully hide his face. Oh, he was definitely embarrassed. He had an odd habit of just rambling sometimes, and apparently around people he thought cute. Oh, he was definitely screwed now.
Spence nervously cleared his throat. "Anyways, a dog that loves music, that's awesome." Short, sweet, and to the point. Just how he wished his other comment had been. He noticed the other boy had also averted his eyes, looking down at the dog between the two. When the boy apologized for the dog, he shook his head. "Nah, it's alright. At least someone thinks my horrid singing and playing is good enough," he replied, a light smile tugging the corner of his lips. He wouldn't be surprised if the teen would argue that it was good; most people seemed to, but he never thought so. The musician could never understand why people thought him so great; there were plenty of people better than him, in vocals and guitar. Like John Mayer. Damn, that dude was a guitar genius. Okay, not really, but he was pretty good. Better than Spencer by a long shot, in any case. As the other boy cleared his throat, trying to make it sound like he hadn't been crying, Spence looked back at the ocean, pretending like he didn't hear him. He didn't want to make a big deal of the fact he had been crying; it would be pretty rude to do such a thing. Well, it wasn't nice, in any case.
As the boy, Benjamin, gave Spencer his name, he nodded, another light smile tugging his features. Why did he keep feeling like smiling around this near complete stranger? Ah well. "Benjy, that's a c--I mean, nice name." Wow. That totally didn't come out right, he had nearly said that it was a cute name. A blush covered his cheeks and he glanced down, trying to hide that fact. Oh dear Lord, please let the other teen not have noticed his correction. And, if he did, not have guessed what Spence had nearly said. If he had, Spencer would die. Well, not really, but he would be highly embarrassed. Damn his stupid thoughts for interrupting his speech. Biting his lip, he glanced back at Benjy, but another blush, though he tried to remove the previous, covered his cheeks. He officially hated his pale, easy-to-blush skin. Seriously, he did. "Er, so. Uhm...do you live around here or something? Oh, do you go to Creek Point?" The academy was relatively well known around the area, although it could be pretty bad if the boy didn't. Because the school had such a bad reputation for housing the troubled kids, thinking the other went there if he didn't could be an insult. Spence then realized his mistake, and he ducked his head, mumbling softly to himself, "What an idiot.." Yeah, he could be pretty stupid sometimes.

His head was resting on his knees again, but it wasn't because he was going to start crying or anything, it was just because he was too lazy to actually sit up right. Nox finally left Spencer alone, only to turn around and start on Benjy. Nudging his hand, licking his face, mouthing his chin. Anything to get a reaction out of him; even though when she was mouthing it was basically like licking since Benjy never felt her teeth. He couldn't help but grin at her as he put his arms around the dog, patting her side and muttering a bunch of gibberish to her. Eventually it got to the point where the teen had to let her go because of how she kept squirming around, threatening to push him over in her excitement. He gave a laugh and reached behind him, sifting his fingers through the sand until he found a stick. He brought it infront of him, tapping her on the nose and then throwing it over her head; away from him and Spencer. Nox turned and dashed off after it, going full speed.
Benjy glanced towards the rambling Spencer, cocking his head curiously at him. "That's what I thought, but my horse was already named Levis which is light in Latin. Which is kinda ironic since he's a black thoroughbred and the spawn of the devil." He cringed at the long-winded explanation, looking down to his hands as he wrung them together nervously. He was really starting to wonder if he was getting sick or something, because he never acted this way around anybody. He wasn't really out here like Brianna was, but he wasn't all closed up like half the kids in the school. He liked to call it a nice medium. He was forced to look up as Nox came rushing back, and dropped the stick infront of him, only to turn right back around and run off before he even had the chance to throw it. He gave a glance towards Spencer as he picked up the stick and tossed it in the general direction of his dog; making sure not to throw it right to her, but make her have to move for it. He didn't want her to get lazy or bored with the game.
Horrible singing and playing? Without thinking, he gave a snort that basically said 'yeah right', but no, he didn't stop there. He had to keep going and open his big mouth, and look right at Spencer while he did so. "Your not horrible." If would've been fine if he stopped there, but again, he didn't think and just kept right on going. "I liked it." Oh now that did it. The worst blush of the day appeared on his face, and it was stark red in comparision to the the rest of his pale skin. He was pretty sure that if he had been bald, even the top of his head would be red. He burried his face in his hand, seriously wishing that the he was sitting on quick sand so he could be slurped up and spared the embarassment. But sadly, the sand didn't swallow him up and he had to look up when Nox came back, because she wouldn't stop poking him in the side with her nose. He didn't know why she didn't go and ask Spencer to throw the stick, he was sorta in the middle of something now. Finally he gave into her, and picked the stick back up, and hefted away from him like a frisbee, the dog rocketing off after it.
This time Nox caught the stick in mid-air and raced back, but changed her path at the last second to drop the droll covered piece of wood infront of Spencer, looking up at him hopefully; her whole hindend wiggling with the enthusiasm of her tail wagging. Benjy didn't realize what Spencer was going to say, so once his face didn't feel so hot and he was sure he wasn't going to stutter over his words he responded. "Yeah? Thanks. Spencer's a unique name. I've never heard it before." And it was the truth. He'd never even thought of the name Spencer for a kid before, just for a store. A somewhat R-rated store, at that. His dark eyes went to his dog who looked like she was ready to explode, and it was all from the fact that she was getting to play with a person besides him or Brianna. Though Nox did like Brianna, well, more like loved her, but the dog loved everybody. "Yup. I'm one of the Creekpoint Detainee's." It wasn't like he was ashamed that he went to the academy, but it wasn't something to brag about either. Nine out of ten times he was alot happier in the white-walled prison school than not. "I help make up the tenth grade population." Yeah, he was still in tenth even though he was old enough to be in eleventh. Failing was a natural part of life, and it just happened that Benjy failed at school.

when the moon found the sun, he looked like he was barely hanging on
Spencer watched the other teen out of the corner of his eye, not really wanting to bother him. If he didn't want to talk, it wasn't like he would force him. That would be rather rude, and he knew he wouldn't like it if someone forced coversation onto him when he didn't want it. He'd probably get in a seriously pissy mood and end up throwing something at the person who dared to attempt to make him talk when he didn't feel like doing so. Here, that would be his shoes. And maybe his hat. The guitar that lay across his lap was too precious for him to even think about throwing, not to mention that breaking it would mean that he would hole himself up in the music room a majority of the time. He wanted, no, needed to practice guitar everyday for more than an hour, at least. And with a broken guitar, that would mean he would have to go to the music room to practice. Spencer blinked as the light colored canine got up and turned to its owner, licking and nipping at him. The senior smiled lightly at the dog's antics and couldn't help but think the grin that lit up the other boy's features gorgeous, though it did make a pink tinge appear upon his cheeks. Hazel eyes followed the stick as it flew in the air, the dog chasing after it excitedly.
The musician suddenly wished that he could hide somewhere. Or that a vortex would suddenly open up and suck him away. Anything so that he wouldn't have to endure the embarrasment he currently felt. Of course, of all the things to do, he would start rambling about shit, wouldn't he? And in front of someone he found rather attractive, to boot. Spence was glad, however, as Benjy started talking, that the other boy paid no hed to his excessive rambling. It was a good thing, too, or else the senior might've just died on the spot. Figuratively, of course. He didn't actually want to die. Not at the moment anyways. If you caught him in one of his down times...that's another story. "Oh really?" he inquired politely, a light smile pulling on his lips. "SO I guess you just wanted to keep the pattern. Kind of like Greenland and Iceland, isn't it? Iceland's green, and Greenland is icey. And I'm rambling again, and I'm shutting up again." The boy ducked his head, suddenly wishing that he didn't have the acousitc guitar sitting across his lap so that maybe he could actually completely hide his blushing face, for he definitely was blushing again. It seemed to be all he was doing today, honestly. Deciding that unless Benjy wanted him to play something, he wouldn't need his guitar anymore, he lifted it from its place on his legs and set it carefully on top of its case, not putting it in yet. The teen then pulled his legs up to his chest, placing his chin atop his knees. Now he'd easily be able to hide his face if the need arose, which he was sure it would.
Nox came running back with the stick as Spencer watched, the dod dropping it infront of Benjy before running off. As Benjy glanced at him briefly, he smiled back, though he wansn't exactly sure why. He just...wanted to smile, for some odd reason. The senior blinked as the other boy snorted. Of course he wouldn't agree with Spence. He had come to find out that everybody else actually enjoyed his playing and that onle he, and his father, found it bad. The musician shook his head as Benjy protested. "No, I am, seriously," he said, then continued to mutter his next words. "You don't have to say that to make me feel better about it." Yeah, his self esteem was still pretty bad. This place was supposed to help, but it didn't do much for him. At Benjy's next comment, he looked up, eyes wide. "R-really? Thanks." The senior's cheeks grew darker as he blushed again, tucking his head in betwwen his legs and chest, forehead resting against his knees. Glancing at the other boy through the curtain of his strawberry blonde hair, he noticed that Benjy's face was a stark red before the teen his his face in his hands. Blinking, Spencer wondered why the boy's face had been red. It couldn't be for the same reason his own face was that color. Well, it could be, but not possibly for the same reason he was blushing. Perhaps the other boy was just one of those people that literally blushed at anything. He had met such people before, and he knew it didn't matter who they were talking to, they'd just blush. Or perhaps he was sunburned on his face and was trying to hide it. Okay, that didn't work out so well, but Spencer's idea of Benjy being one of those easy to blush kind of people stuck, and that's what he decided to believe. Like anyone would blush over him anyways. Looking back over at the teen, he watched as Nox clambered over the poor kid until he tossed the stick again.
However, this time was different. The light colored dog caught the stick in the air, and ran back towards to two boys. Spencer blinked as the slobber-covered wood as dropped in front of him, the canine obviously wanted him to throw it for her this time. Hefting a sigh, he tentively reached out a hand, grabbing the stick where it looked like there was the least amount of drool. That was one thing he disliked about dogs; they covered everything they could get their mouth on in spit. Grimacing, he wrapped his hand around the wood, withholding a wince as he felt the slick slobber under his skin. Lucky for him, Benjy apparently didn't notice his slip-up, and he was definitely relieved. He definitely would've died with embarrasment if the teen had realized what he had nearly said. Except for the whole thing about him not wanting to die yet deal. "Mhmm. You're welcome," he said, looking out over the beach, looking for a place to throw the stick. Looking down at Nox, he waggled the stick in front of her, not letting her get a hold of it. "Oh, really? There was a couple of other Spencer's where I grew up. They were both girls, though, so I got taunted a bit about that. Saying I had a girl name, though it can be used for both genders. But you know kids, they use anything to taunt someone else." He shrugged as he looked down at the excited dog, smiling lightly at its antics. Taking another look out across the beach, he threw it as hard as he could for the dog, the animal in question racing after it, Spencer watching her fondly. "Ah, good. Well...you know. If you hadn't been, I was scared you might've tried to hurt me or something...saying such a thing could be taken as an insult to someone that didn't go. But yeah, I go there too." He wasn't necessarily proud of it, but he wasn't ashamed, and he was better off at the academy then back at his house with his family. Where he had been abused and hurt. "Oh, tenth grade? You seem like you'd be in a higher grade than that...I'm a senior, so." He had always been bad at guessing people's ages, anyways. Spencer glanced over at Benjy, biting his lip slightly before he looked back out at the rest of the beach, eyes following Nox as she dashed back with the slobbery stick.

Benjy watched Nox head back to the pair, dropping the stick out of her mouth before she was even near them. Surprisingly, she didn't turn around to go get it, and the teen figured it was because she was sick of playing fetch. "Yeah..I sorta failed fourth grade." He shrugged as if the whole thing was no big deal. In his mind, he had a really good reason for not wanting to do anything in class or even be in school. Fourth grade was a depressing time, what with the death of his mother and then the insensitive jerks that decided to pick on him just because he was 'as sensative as a girl'. That was there only reason for messing with him. Not a very good reason, was it? Yeah, he didn't think it was either, but it wasn't like he could do anything to stop them. He was just the tiny skater kid who wore pants that were too tight and shirts that were short. Can't forget the awesome shoes and belts too. Basically, he was a scene kid cross skater when he was in fourth grade; his style wasn't a recently inherited thing. "Those types of people are just get under my skin." His tone wasn't as hostile as someone would expect it to be, but it was probably because he was in one of those moods that he didn't think he could get mad. Which was surpising considering who he was.
He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and tried to ignore it, but it got to the point that it was annoying. He moved so that he could get his phone out of his pocket, and then sat back down, crossing his legs infront of him instead of pulling them up to his chest. He flashed a small smile to Spencer, before he glanced down at the new text message, staring at the screen long after he'd read the words. Remember earlier when he thought he wouldn't be able to get mad today? Yeah..he lied. Nox was sitting at his side, her head resting on his shoulder enough so that her nose could just touch his cheek bone. He glanced sideways at her, and then slide his phone shut, tapping it against her nose, just let he had with the stick. "One more fetch?" He coo'd to her in a voice that was strained to sound sweet so she wanted to play. He watched the pitbull terrier bounce away, her floppy ears perking slightly. Weighing the phone in his hand for a minute, his decision was final and he threw the phone down the beach towards the water, his dog racing off after it. Clearly excited that it was going near the water, and she'd be able to get in a quick swim. Which is exactly what she did. Benjy gave a laugh as Nox overshot the phone and plunged into the water, paddling around for a few minutes before turning back to the shore. She shook off, and then picked up the damp phone before racing back to him and Spencer.
He held out his hand for the phone as Nox brought it back, stuffing the now ruined piece of technology into his pocket and looking back to the other teenager. "Senior huh? Lucky, you've only got a year left of school and then your done forever. Unless you want to go to college of course, but then that doesn't take forever either, so any way you look at it, your almost done with talking crap from teachers." It was Benjy's turn to ramble, and it made him wish that he still had his knees to hide his face in, so he did what any good teenage boy did when they were embarassed and blushing and couldn't hide it. He reached to Nox, tapping his hand on her muzzle playfully a few times until she was ready for a play fight. He grabbed her as she bounced onto him, flopping back into the sand under her weight, before pushing her off of him and rolling onto his knees, pinning Nox on her back with his torso, and laughing as she gave a few barks and licked his face, not at all upset that she was on her back and technically losing the playful battle. Benjy left his dog up once he was done blushing, but instead of staying sitting down, he stood up and brushed his jeans down.
Benjy picked up his shoes that he had laid down in the sand, checking the slip knot between the laces before he strung them over Nox's withers. She could carry them for him. "Uhm Spencer? You want to get some ice cream?" He asked softly, looking down to the previously named boy. This time, when Benjy blushed, it wasn't as bad as the last few times, probably because there was a good reaosn for it. The way he worded the question sounded like he was asking the senior out of a date or something, when actually, it wasn't the case; even if he wouldn't of minded going somewhere with him. "I promised my friend, Brianna, that I'd eat something." As lame as that explanation sounded, it was the truth. She had asked him to eat something, and so he would, if only to make sure she didn't end up kicking his underweight ass. He picked up his skateboard next, leaning it against his leg, holding it steady by the trucks.

when the moon found the sun, he looked like he was barely hanging on
Spencer watched as Nox came dashing back with the stick her threw, dropping it down and not jolting off again; apparently, the dog didn't want to play fetch anymore. At Benjy's reply, the teen blinked. Of course, he heard of people failing grades. He had heard of people that had done so. But nobody he actually knew (because he was definitely considering the other boy a friend now) had actually failed a grade. But now he did. "...Oh. Okay," was the musician's short statement, not knowing what else to say. A reply was hard to think of for such an unsuspecting revalation. The boy chewed his lip ilghtly, not knowing what else he could say. He didn't know if Benjy was bitter about the fact he failed or not, and, not knowing such a thing, didn't know if saying anything else about it was a good idea. He wondered briefly if the reason the other teen had failed fourth grade was a good one. Not that it mattered; he would still be his friend (well, unless the other teen didn't want to be friends...) whether or not, he was just simply curious as to the reason Benjy had failed. His next words made Spencer looked up, for he had been looking down at his bare feet (which looked rather ugly; he had never thought too much about feet. he never really liked them...). The senior tilted his head, wondering what the fellow Creek Point detainee meant. "Hm?" was his inquiring hum.
As the two sat in the sand, he suddenly heard a faint hum. Or a buzz; different people had different words to describe the sound of a phone vibrating. Then again, it also depended on the phone. Different phones made different sounds when vibrating. But the point is, here, that he heard a phone buzzing. On instinct, he checked his own phone, but, of course, his wasn't the one vibrating; it was Benjy's. Spence watched as Benjy pulled it from his pocket. Unexpectedly, the other boy glanced over at him and smiled. He felt as a light warmth covered his cheeks, and smiled back before ducking his head again, attempting to hide the blush that covered his cheeks. Once he felt it fade, he looked back over at Benjy, watching as the other teen read whatever it was that was on the phone. Presumably, it was a text message. The senior continued to watch as the boy tapped Nox on the nose, offering for the dog to fetch the stick once more. --Wait, that wasn't the stick. The stick was still in front of him. Spencer blinked as he realized that Benjy had thrown his phone across the beach, out towards the water. Of all things, he didn't expect that. Okay, sure, he himself had thrown his phone against the wall in his dorm in a fit of rage. But he had never tossed it out on the beach. (Then again, he hadn't a dog to fetch it back to him.) He watched, frozen in shock, as the dog chased after it (hopefully) overshooting it and dashing into the water. The boy hadn't been expecting any of this. Sure, he knew other people had anger issues (though he was pretty damn sure that any Benjy might have were more stable than his own) but he didn't expect this. Okay, he really didn't know if the other teen actually had anger problems; it was simply assumed, judging by the sudden throwing of a phone from which he had just received a message.
Spencer was still staring as the dog came rushing back with the phone, Benjy easily pocketing it, paying no heed to the destruction it was sure to have endured from the throw and the slobber than must have fallen on it from the canine's mouth. The senior was still blinking even as the other boy spoke, before he realized that the words were directed at him and snapped out of his reverie. "Oh, yeah. I'm a senior. Yeah, that's one good thing about it. Able to get away from the work and the teachers of high school," he replied easily, not meeting the other's eye. "But it also kind of sucks. Having to leave all my non-senior friends, you know? I mean, yeah we'd still get to hang out. But it's different," he shrugged with a light sigh. "Besides, I don't even know what I'm going to do after this. Don't know if I want to go to college, much less where, what I want to do. I'll probably just hang around here till I do figure it out, though." Although he really didn't want to hang around here. He'd only do it because he knew people in the area, at the school. Honestly, all he wanted to do was run away. Get away from his father. The only person he could ever really be scared of. Suddenly, as he looked over at Benjy, him and Nox were play fighting. He watched the two with a smile on his face. Really, a dog and his master (should the two be friends; he had seen situations where the master was a master and nothing more) were extremely cute together. He watched them with a fond grin, for those two, Nox and Benjy, had quickly become friends, at least in his mind they had. As suddenly as it had begun, however, it was over, and Benjy was standing.
"Huh? Oh....sure, that sounds good," he replied, trying not to stumble over his words. Though he was sure that Benjy hadn't meant it that way, in a way, it sounded like he was asking him out on a date. Or something like that, anyways. And, of course, the blush appeared once more on his cheeks. Ducking his head, he pulled his shoes on. He didn't want to stop to pull them on when they got to the hot concrete (though it would start to cool down now that the sun was almost over the horizon). Besides, they'd be fine in the sand. Standing, he brushed sand off of himself and grabbed the guitar, stuffing it into his bag before pulling it over his shoulder and back. A light bulb went off in his head (figuratively, of course) as the teen spoke the name "Brianna", pronouncing it as Bri-on-a, instead of Bri-ann-a, as most people did. His best friend had that name. "Brianna? Brianna Hart, you mean? She's my best friend!" he said brightly with a grin. Unless Benjy had meant a different Brianna (and there weren't many, if any at all, of those around) they had a friend in common. And it sounded like Brianna to make someone eat something.
Re: `all was golden in the sky [benjy] « Reply #9 on Jul 16, 2009, 5:00pm »
He instinctly winced when he heard Spencer stumbled across his words. So Benjy had been right, he did take it as if he was asking him out. He knew he probably should've tried to explain, but he didn't, he just headed up onto the board walk, nodding as the other teen asked about Brianna. "That would be her. She's my best friend too." A grin spread across his pale face, and then disappeared as those stupid waves of vertigo hit him. His expression turned into a dazed one, and his hand came up from his side so he could cover his eyes under the sensation passed. "I love that girl to pieces." And it was the truth, even if it made him sound like he was dating her. The fact was, she was like a sister to him, and he wouldn't do anything to hurt her on purpose, and if he could, he would help her like she tried to help him. He just needed to stop being so stubborn and let her in. Shoving his hand into his pocket, he started up the board walk again, sneaking glances at Spencer when he thought the other wasn't looking. Meanwhile, his ever hyper dog was calmly walking infront of them, her tail wagging at every person she passed, but instead of running up to them and asking for attention, she stayed with Benjy and Spence, happy with the two attention givers she had. The only thing to make this day better for her was to go back to the dorms and take a nap on Bri's bed.
Benjamin looked over to Spencer again, but this time, he kept looking. "About earlier..Sorry if I freaked you out...I just sorta..lose it...somtimes....Okay! I lose it alot, but it's not really my fault...Alright! So maybe it is......I'm gonna shut up now.." And with that, he bowed into silence and looked up to the ice cream shack that kept getting closer. So maybe ice cream wasn't the best thing for him to be eating on an empty stomache, but atleast it tasted good and it had sugar in it. Heh, Benjy liked sugar to the point that it was a good thing he wasn't a diabetic, because if he was, he'd end up in the hospital from sugar shock. Or well, he would if ate food. Once they were close enough to the shack, Benjy bounced forward to the counter, grinning smally at the attendant and fishing his wallet out of his back pocket. He handed over the money in exchange for the cones, and flashed the attendent another grin. Heading back to Spencer, he held out the ice cream cone, licking his own. "I figured you'd want chocolate like ninety-nine percent of the world's population. It's lame how popular the flavour actually is." Again he took a lick of his ice cream, sucking the small amount of the chocolate frozen treat off of his snakebites when it happened to get there.

Spencer hadn't intended to stumble over his words. It was just the fact that this attractive male had befriended him, and was all of a sudden asking about ice cream. It just sounded....kind of funny. At least to him. He knew that the other male wasn't asking him out on a date, but the thought just couldn't help but running through his head. Especially now when he had quickly become infatuated with the teen. It was just something that had happened, though not intentionally. If anything, he would have rather not developed the crush so quickly (maybe with a couple more meetings...), but this was the way it had happened, so this was the way it would have to be, apparently. Not that he had anything really wrong with it, except for the fact that he knew that Benjy wouldn't like someone like him. A bit too heavy for his build, not a great person in general. Looking back at the other teen, he guessed that he probably already had someone that he liked, or was dating. His crush was probably helpless, stupid, pointless. He mentally kicked himself for growing to like Benjy so quickly.
The senior grinned upon learning that the two shared a friend. It was a pretty cool thing, really, to learn that someone you had just met was best friends with your best friend. It let there be some common ground. And if it weren't for the fact that they had already been talking easily for a while, it could have been a way to break any ice between the two, just the fact that they both knew someone. Just by talking about said common friend, two people could find a connection somewhere. Maybe talk about embarassing facts about the person. But, of course, that wasn't needed, as they had been talking for quite a while, already, and were doing fine without embarassing Bri. Spencer looked over as a frown passed across Benjy's lips, and his hand went up to block his eyes. "Are you alright?" he managed to ask before the other teen's next comment about Brianna. "Yeah, I do too. She's pretty amazing." Other people might think it odd, the way the two talked about the girl, if they didn't know how close they were with her. To Spencer, she was like a sister. An annoying little sister, but one nonetheless, and one that was much loved. Having heard Bri speak of a Benjy before, he wouldn't be surprised if he felt the same, but he'd no way of knowing, not unless he decided to reveal that fact.
As Benjy continued to walk along the boardwalk, Spencer followed him half a step behind. Watching the dog that padded along in front of them, he grinned. Really, he did love animals, mostly dogs, of course. Trying to be conspicious, he occasionally looked over at Benjy. A couple of times, he noticed that Benjy was looking back, and a light tinge covered his cheeks, and he wished that he could bury his face once more into his kness, hiding it from view, but he looked back at Nox, trying to remove the pink from his cheeks. He glanced back at the other teen, and saw Benjy looking at him. Before he could turn away, the sophomore began to speak. The musician kept watching the other teen, not wanting to seem like he wasn't interested by looking away, and nodded. "Nah, it's okay. You startled me a bit, but that's probably to be a bit expected. Not many people find someone else just randomly sitting next to them in such a state everyday. It's okay, you're fine. Some people have things like that about them." Like he had the whole not believing a single compliment given to him thing. Not to mention his crazy-ass mood swing things. And his temper. Although Benjy hadn't seen any of that yet. If they were going to continue to be friends, he was sure that the other teen would see it eventually.
Spencer watched as the little shack that sold ice cream creeped closer to them as they walked, Nox prancing before them. Like most people, Spence was a fan of sugar. Some of the crueler kids at the school said that he liked it to much, seeing nothing but the slight gut that he had. It wasn't like he was really fat, and it was just leftover from when he was younger, and couldn't really get rid of, thanks. But such people didn't really think of things like that, and preferred to tease people over it. Anyways, a bit of chub didn't hurt a single person. It was easily hidden, anyways. Spencer blinked as Benjy bounced up to the stand, pulling out his wallet. He was about to protest before he saw that the money had already changed hands. Not to mention, as he had been reaching for money in his pocket, he realized that he hadn't any with him. As the other teen came back, he pouted. "You didn't have to buy it for mee," he said, even though it was the only reason he was going to get ice cream, due to the lack of money. As Benjy handed him the cone, he grinned and accepted the cone of chocolate ice cream. "Well, I do like chocolate, so that was a good choice on your part," he replied with a lick of the creamy cold treat. "But yeah, it is kind of lame, but how good it tastes kinda makes up for it." It was true. Or, well, he thought so in any case.
Giving Spencer an ice cream cone might not have been a great idea. Mostly because he was simply super messy with it. It was nearly impossible for him not to even make a small mess of it. Ice cream always ended up on his face somewhere. And sometimes in weirdly crazy places. As he continued to lick the cold treat from it's perch on the cone, he somehow managed to get some on his nose. Yeah, his nose. I told you he got it in weird places. He looked up, glanced over at Benjy, and simply laughed at the fact that he got it on his nose. Of course, a light tinge of pink covered his cheeks, 'cause, yeah, it was also kind of embarassing. But not extremely so, at least. Just enough, however, that he did have a slight blush. Yeah, he was a bit of a messed up kid. But weren't they all?

He completely ignored the other teen asking him if he was alright. Benjy wanted to say that he was fine, but he couldn't lie to Spence. Even if he wanted to. As ridiculous as it sounded, he was falling for the musician, and it wasn't one of those 'head of heels' things, it was more of a 'face first' deal where he wouldn't have the chance to land on his feet. He knew the whole crush was abit hopeless, if only because Spence was bound to have been snatched up by one of the older students. There was also the fact that he was definatly not gay, or even bi. So pretty much Benjy figured he was setting himself up for disaster. He tilted his head lightly, listening intently as the senior went on to say that it was to be expected and that it was okay. The sophomore could only nod his head, and try not to act surprised. It wasn't everyday he found someone who was willing to still talk to him after he had one of his episodes, no matter how small the episode happen to be.
A grin appeared on his face as he watched Spencer pout at the fact he'd bought the ice cream for him. The grin only had enough time to disappear for about three seconds before it was back at the fact that Benjy had indeed been right about what flavour ice cream he liked. "I was bound to make a good choice at some point." Happily he resumed licking at his ice cream, taking bites off the top every now and again. "Your right. The taste does make up for it." His voice squeaked up and octive as he agree'd, abit too enthusiastic. And why was he so enthusiastic? Well, he was eating something that was basically sugar, and he had nothing else in his stomache except water. Basically, he had the beginnings of a sugar rush. He finished the rest of the ice cream, nibbling on the edge of the cone thoughtfully before just biting into it, and then tossing the rest to Nox, who caught it, and finished in it two bites. Glancing back up to Spencer, he had to giggle at the fact that he happened to have chocolate ice cream on his nose, and was blushing about it.
Without thinking, he reached out and wiped the ice cream off of the senior noses, and then licked it off of his own finger. It took him a few minutes to realize exactly what he had done, and when he did, another one of those stunning blushes came across his face. "Uh..S-sorry.." His voice was quiet as he stutter across his apology, and after he was done talking, he went to chewing on his own snakebite, looking down to toes. He wasn't a big fan of his feet, but it wasn't like he wished he had different feet. Without warning, another wave of vertigo struck, and this time, he had to sit down, or risk falling down. So he sat in the middle of the board walk, rubbing his temples and waiting until he felt like he was on dry land instead of in the middle of a stormy ocean. "Uh...I guess this needs an explanation..." Normally he would've did what he did earlier, just ignore the question, but he couldn't do that this time. Spencer deserved to know. "Technically I'm underweight...." His voice trailed off as he glanced up to the senior, and slowly stood back up, staring at his feet again. "By seventy pounds.." His words were slurred together, and for one reason or another, he was whispering. He was also afraid to look the musician in the eye.

when the moon found the sun, he looked like he was barely hanging on
A sigh slipped from Spencer's lips as his question was ignored. Well, maybe not ignored, but intentionally not answered. He kind of did wish that his question had been answered. The boy was worried for his new friend, when he had suddenly seemed different. But apparently the teen wanted to keep it to himself. Oh well, to each their own, he supposed, walking along near Benjy. The musician glanced at the other teen every so often, and, sure enough, there was that tingling, that spark that told him, 'Yep Spencer, you still like him, you idiot.' It wasn't his voice the thought came in, but it wasn't his father either, the voice in his head that usually put him down all the time, told him how useless he was, hopeless, stupid, horrible, good for nothing. It seemed a cross between father and son, telling him how stupid he was to be infatuated with this boy he just met. This person he barely knew. A person that was most likely taken or had an interest already, and even if he weren't, doubtful to like guys in that way. Stupid, stupid, stupid, the voice told him. No, Spencer wasn't crazy, wasn't mental, he just had a few problems. And don't even tell me you don't have voices in your head. We all know that's a lie.
Even if he hadn't the money to buy his own ice cream cone, he still was upset that the other boy paying for it. Suddenly having an idea, he looked up. "I'll pay you back for it...just..not right now. 'Cause I don't have any money on me..." he mumbled out. What kind of guy didn't carry money with him? Apparently Spencer did, seeing as how he didn't have any at the moment. It was all sitting back in his dorm room, probably sitting on his desk, in his wallet. He had already mentally kicked himself several times about leaving it there. Where anybody that came into the room might see it. Yeah, he was pretty much an idiot in that respect. A slight smile appeared on his lips as he looked sideways at Benjy, a goofy grin on the other teens face as he reveled in the fact that he happened to choose an ice cream flavor that the senior liked. "Everybody is bound to make a good choice at least once in life. Twice if you're lucky," he stated, grinning as he took another lick of the chocolate ice cream. A light chuckle escaped from his lips at Benjy's next comment. "Yeah, it pretty much does," he agreed, a grin on his lips.
Spencer wasn't normally a messy eater. Well, unless whatever he was eating could get messy, but it wasn't a normal thing for him. But ice cream was a different matter. One could say that it brought out the little kid in him and, because little kids are widely known to be messy eaters, he was messy when eating ice cream. Or at least slightly so. He didn't have ice cream in every imaginable place (such as on his cheeks, chins, corner of his mouth, etc, though a few of those places had spots of ice cream there), but he did get it on him. And it was just his luck to get some on his nose, of course. Then again, he was pretty damn sure that he'd somehow gotten a bit of ice cream on his nose everytime he had the deliciously cool treat. But still, it never failed to bring a blush to his cheeks due to sheer embarassment. Because seriously, who got ice cream on their NOSE?
Suddenly, however, a finger came across his view and wiped the chocolate off his nose. Spencer blinked as he followed the finger in it's trail back to the owner's mouth. He stayed blinking at Benjy until a blush covered the other teens cheeks, then he really realize what had happened, and the pink tinge that had been there before darkened into a deep blush as he wiped the bit of chocolate that was still on his nose away. "I..no...it's...okay," was his mumbled reply as he finished off the ice cream cone, looking anywhere but at Benjy, his mind racing, trying to make sense of what the hell just happened. It was just a friendly thing...right? The teen had just been helping Spencer get the chocolate off his nose. But then...why stick it in his mouth. The senior just didn't know, and pushed the thought from his mind as the other boy suddenly sat down and rubbed his temples. Feeling weird still standing up, he took a seat next to Benjy, pulling his legs back up to his chest. Always good to have the security of having your legs to hide behind if the need arose. At least that's what he thought.
"Ah, no...you don't have to..? the mumbled statement turned into a question by sheer accident, but it was out, and he couldn't take it back. However, apparently Benjy had different plans, seeing as how the sophomore continued to speak, to explain himself. Spencer blinked at his words, then attempted to stand back up again as the other teen did, but only succeeded in falling back down on his behind. Of course. "Y-you are?" Dammit. A stupid stutter. He didn't even know how he managed that. He didn't normally stutter, of course. Just on...special occasions. Carefully, he picked himself off the ground and stood up again, looking over at Benjy curiously, the teen looking down at the ground. He shook his head, though he doubted the other would notice. "No..it's fine. I don't have a problem with that..." It was the truth. He didn't. Sure, now that he knew this tidbit, he would like it if his friend ate a little more, if he was that underweight, but it wasn't like he was going to stuff food down the boy's throat. He'd leave that to Brianna, seeing as how she was the friend of both of the two teens. It seemed like her kind of job, anyways.
