IT'S A takedown! [Miky] « Thread Started on Jun 30, 2009, 7:44pm »
The bundle of blankets wiggled in the middle of the bed, a head of black hair popping out of the top, his arms and upper body fallowing as he twisted onto his back. Benjy had been abit on the cold side last night, and Nox had decided she didn't want to do anything but take the blankets from him. So after wrestling the blankets away from the dog, he just wrapped himself up them like a catapillar would in a cocoon. Instantly, Nox leapted up to the top of the bed and covered the teens face in slobbery licks, which made the boy groan and roll over, burrowing his face under the pillow to escape her. She eventually gave up, and jumped down to the floor, whining. It was obviously time to feed the canine. He dragged himself out of bed, heading over to his dresser, snatching up the metal bowel that was on the floor. He set the bowel back down on the floor once it was filled. Immediatly the american pit bull terrier dug in, and gave the teenager time to escape for a shower without having to worry about her trying to jump in with him. Yeah, somehow she learned how to open the bathroom door, but not the dorm door..go figure.
The whole shower deal probably took him fifteen minutes. He would never understand how some people took a half hour or even an hour just to bathe. Wrapping one towel around his thin waist, he opened the door and headed out into the main part of the room, ruffling his hair with another, smaller towel. Coming to his dresser, he tossed his 'hair' towel down into the hamper and pulled open his drawers in turn, finding his outfit for the day. For one reason or another, he rushed through getting dressed until it came to getting his shirt on, then he drifted around the room, putting his sock covered feet into his boots before pulling his shirt on. Nox was finally done eating, and came over to him, sniffing at his horse smelling cowboy boots. Suddenly she bounced to the door, and then back to Benjy, having smelt Levis on the boots and understanding that they were going to the barn. His dog was way too smart.
Going to the dorm door, he stuffed his phone and cigarettes into his front pocket, and then grabbed the seldom used cowboy hat off the table, stuffing it down on his head. Of course he had a hat. It was for the times when he actually decided to show Levis in some sort of competition, and the western style hat was just a tradition, sorta. Pulling the door open, he locked it, and then closed it once he and Nox were out. He passed the front desk, and scooted out the front door, turning towards the path that lead up to the barn, a cigarette hanging out of the side of his mouth and a hand searching around in his pocket for a lighter. "Fuck.." The word was grumbled around the source of nicotine in his lips, and he still didn't find the missing lighter until he was up at the barn. "Finally." Was it that obvious that he needed a cigarette to keep going? Exhaling through his nose, he slid down the side of the barn so he could sit on the ground until he finished his first dose of nicotine for the day. He rushed through the cigarette, snuffing it out, and then standing up, heading into the barn.
Benjy found his thoroughbred stallion all tacked up and on the lounge line in the indoor arena, his older brother Brandon must have come down earlier and been working with him for abit. "Hey Brandon. Let me get up on him." The teen greeted, and once the older brother brought Levis down to a stop, the younger brother boosted up into the saddle. "Want me to take the lounge line off?" Brandon started towards Levis' head, reaching out with his one hand before he was anywhere near him, letting the stallion know what was coming. Levis was one hell of a baustard, and he was also a father. The mare he got pregnant? Caleb's gypsy vanner, Riot. "Yeah. See you later" As soon as the lounge line was off, Benjy pushed the stallion into a canter, and then up into a gallop, lining him up with the first barrel as Brandon exited the barn. All that it took was a downward transition from the gallop to the trot, turn the barrel and then race off into another gallop until he was at the second barrel, but instead, the stallion decided to be an ass, and dig his toes in, coming to a stuttering stop and unseating Benjy, who happened to tumble into the dirt.
Now before people start freaking out, Benjy was used to be thrown off. Him and the ground were on a first name basis, and it was all because of the stallion that he loved. "Your gonna be mincemeat Levis!" He snapped at the stallion, climbing back to his feet, putting his dusty hat back on his head and bouncing back into the saddle. "It's not like I'm asking you to jump the grand canyon. You know how to do this." At this point, the two were duking it out. Benjy was pushing with his outside leg and bringing the stallions head in, trying to get him to turn, but Levis decided he was going to leap sideways in the opposite direction. "Levis. Stop fucking around and stand still for five seconds." Yeah, Benjy knew that getting mad at a horse didn't help anything, but surprisingly, Levis was one of those horses that needs a firm attitude, or else he walked all over the person. Kicking his heels into the stallions side, he finally got him to lunge forward into another gallop, which was what Benjy was looking for. The teen shortened the stallions one rein, taking his outside leg away completely and tapping his heel against the thoroughbreds shoulder. The whole set of ques made Levis redirect himself, and then come to a sliding stop so he didn't hit the wall. As cruel as it may seem, that was exactly what Benjy wanted, he wanted to run his horse into the wall. "Thank you. Your such an ass." To his, he only got a snort, but atleast the stallion was still, catching his breath while the teen caught his.

Up against the wall on his bed sat an insanely grumpy Tim the heat was killing him, he was almost convinced he would melt away at this rate. So of course he didn't get to sleep till the early hours of the morning, one hour into a dreamless slumber and some idiot goes and bangs a door, waking up our incredibly light sleeper. Generally a few nights sleep wouldn't bother him, yet when he had nothing to stay awake for and no problems to keep him up then he seemed to always feel doubly tired and grumpy. Perhaps it was the fact that he had nothing to do, no assignment, no aimless job that he was often given to keep his mind at work. Absolutely nothing!
The mare needed work, yet the last thing he needed this morning was a pigheaded arab who could tell exactly when he was feeling at his lowest just so she could push him down ever further. . . In reality she wasn't that bad anymore, a lot of training had gone into this one and he was beginning to see a turn around. Never before had he had a horse like her to work with, she was almost too intelligent.
Stumbling out of bed Tim looked walked towards the bathroom, carefully managing to step on every spare item of clothing that lay on the floor, because he could. Standing under the showers cool water he shivered before getting used to it. He wasn't usually like this, so pent up frustrated and childish. Then again never before had he been put into such a position were one couldn't help but get frustrated and act like a child. As the cold water finally seeped into his bones he turned off the water and stepped out, leaving a trail of water behind him as he went to retrieve the towel that was still on his floor by his bed. Jeans, shirt, boots, smoke, lighter and his phone o and the akubra. It took about 10 minutes to find everything and fifty seconds to get changed and leave the room. Smoke already hanging out the side of his mouth as he walked out the doors, couldn't care less if anyone saw him at the moment. It was lit the second the stale warm air hit him. Walking towards the barn was all it took for him to finish it, it was easy to tell what his new addiction was, he blamed it on the stale American air, then again he had been just as bad back in Australia.
The sound of wood splintering brought a smile to his lips briefly as he walked towards the sound. He didn't think it would take long for the grey mare to get stuck into her stable. When I had said she had come along way, I forgot to mention how far she still had to go. That and she hadn't been given her breakfast yet. Throwing her a quarter of hay Tim went to find his gear, more so just his bridle. He knew he would probably get the shit beaten out of him down hear for not using a saddle. Usually only those who wished to show off or didn't have precious boy bits to endanger attempted bareback. It was however how he worked and wouldn't change a darn thing about it to please anyone. Wondering what there policy on helmets were he left it behind, he could always come back to get it if need be.
Since she was to eager to leave the confined space indoors, he figured they could work in the indoor arena today. He was having just that kind of morning. Leading her by her bridle he made his way towards the arena, the mares neck was taunt as she held her head up high eyes rolling. Leaping to the left behind Tim at one point as the bin that was hiding that horse eating monster came into sight. That earnt her a sharp jab in the ribs with his elbow and she skittered away from him. Coming to a halt at the entrance he looked around to see if anyone was in there already, he spotted a horse with its rider on the ground. A small smile found his lips and he stopped still watching what would happen next.
Tim nodded his head in silent approval as he watched the boy, it almost looked like himself when he got angry with one of the breakers. He had since learnt however that to react like that with this mare was suicide. Only when the other boy had his horse halted did Tim vault on, something that had taken years of practice and still looked anything but graceful. Touching the brim of his hat Tim nodded his head in greeting " Mornin'" his accent still as thick as ever and his voice strong but almost amused. Senkana skittered beneath him, she didn't move forward however or backwards, not even sideways this time. She just made it very clear that Tim hadn't payed her near enough attention lately and was going to pay for it today.

As soon they were both breathing normally, and cooled off, Benjy loosened the reins, nudging Levis off the wall and back toward the start of the course. The teen and stallion were calm, but it couldn't last for long, it never did. It was only a matter of time before something would happen and Levis would start acting up again, or someone would start telling Benjamin off and piss him off. The voice brought the teen out of his thoughts, and he looked up, touching the brim of his hat in return. It was all polite, and even though he wasn't a Southener, but in fact a Northerner, he would still hold true to the western traditions of riding. "Morning" His greeting was simple, and his voice sounded hoarse, but it wasn't a surprise after all the yelling he'd just done.
A soft sigh was given from the skinny teen when Levis finally relaxed completely and let his head drop into the right position. It was something that the two worked on everytime they rode, and it seemed that the stallion hadn't forgotten yet. Too bad as soon as he saw the mare his head was back up and his ears pricked. The thoroughbred was a whore, no doubt about it. Benjy didn't even give the stallion a chance to move closer, he stopped him, and then kept the pressure on, getting him to back up. There was no way that the teen was letting his stallion become a father again, and no..Benjy being on his back and the mare having someone on her back, wouldn't stop Levis, the brute would find some way to ride her of her rider, and him of his own. It was times like these that the teen wished he had went with a mare. Atleast then he would only have to worry about her coming into heat, and then going right out, with a stallion, he had to put up with him getting big headed everytime a mare came into season. It got really old, really fast.
"Uhm. I'm Benjy..this is Levis..and I'm gonna apologize in advance for his hellish behavoir." It was easier to say sorry before the stuff happened then after, because half the time after it all happened, the other person would be too mad to listen to an apology. He finally had the stallion stop backing up, and let him move forward again, having him curve away from the other two in the arena, and towards the first barrel. The teen pushed the stallion up into a working trot, and brought him around the barrel. Levis, in turn, went to lunge forward into his gallop again, but that wasn't what Benjy was looking for. Being as the stallion had a problem with turning the barrels earlier, Benjamin was going to make him trot all of the barrels, and each time he went to go up into a gallop or a canter, he'd be made to walk. It was something his older brother had taught him, being as his brother had also been the one to teach him how to ride. The two cut around the second and third barrel without a problem, and went down the center line towards the 'start' of the course, where Benjy stopped the stallion and made him pivot around, which was good reining practice.

The mare had seen the stallion and as they approached she arched her neck, ears flat along the base of her neck. She wasn't fond of most horses at the best of days, a stallion on near any day was just asking for trouble in her books. Tim hated the thought of anyone who wished to breed from her in the future. He wasn't sure who he would feel more sorry for, her or the stallion. Offering a brief smile as the boy greeted him back Tim relaxed and shook his head as the mare instantly leapt forward, it wasn't a complete mistake on her behalf, yet he still brought her back to the standstill before he would ask her again to walk forward.
He hadn't worked her in hear yet and regardless of the fact that the last few months she had been working around similar equipment, she still found a reason to find almost everything larger than a soccer ball scary. He was preoccupied however by the boy and the stallion who was preoccupied in Senkana. Next to the big boy his grey little arab looked even uglier than usual. Yet it didn't bother Tim to much, never was one for stallions, it was the mares he always seemed to work better with. Funny how it worked out like that.
Tim smiled briefly as the boy introduced himself and his horse. "Hey , names Tim and this is Senkana" he said in return reaching down and scratching the mares shoulder and rolled her eyes as she threw up her head and pawed the ground most likely in impatience. He had never really been to a place were he was around many other horse people, if he was working at a barn he tended to work away from everyone else. So he wasn't quite sure what to make of this boys outward apology of his horses behavior in the future. Generally a small nod and a muttered "sorry" if anything would be more than enough for Tim if a horse acted up in his presence. It was all part of the game right? Well atleast to him it was. " Its all good, you go ahead and ill keep out of your way, just yell if you would like the space to yourself." Senkana wasn't an angel yet she had come far from the days of pretending to be a bucking bronc, and the stallion looked like he needed the work much more than she did so Tim would give them the right of way. . then again he probably would have regardless.
Someone was dragging a wheelbarrow past the entrance of the arena, that was all it took for the grey mare to scatter forward in fright, her head bent low as she tried to toss them in between her legs. She was brought around by Tim however who rolled his eyes again, pissed of that he hadn't seen that coming, and surprised it hadn't unseated him. His long legs curved around her side as he yanked her around in a tiny circle. Letting her pick the pace he figured if he was going to go down she could go down with him.

Benjy nodded to acknowledge that he had actually heard Tim, and wasn't just blowing him off. He watched as the mare skittered around because of the wheelbarrel, and only could tilt his head lightly. He knew some horses were skiddish like that, but he personally had never ridden one. It had to be because the horses in New York were ready for all types of noises. It's what came with riding at stable that was in a busy part of the city. Slowly he leaned his weight to one side, getting him to circle away from Tim and Senkana. Benjy yawned lightly, crossing his reins behind the horn of the saddle so he could take his hat off and push his hair back, then put his hat back on. Of course Levis knew that the teen wasn't holding onto the reins anymore, but he didn't try anything, surprisingly.
Finally, it seemed that his stallion was going to behave, but it wasn't bound to last long, maybe run or two, then they'd go at it again. Benjy was hoping that Levis would behave for the rest of the session, but he couldn't be sure. Picking his reins back up in both of his hands, he tapped his toe against Levis's shoulder, which would've made him sidestep, if the stallion had been paying attention. It was okay though, since that was the only reason Benjy had done the whole thing, was to make sure he had Levis attention. Again he tapped his shoulder, and this time he did sidestep, which was the okay for the teen. Kissing softly, he turn his heels against Levis's sides, and loosened up his reins. Off the two went at the normal speed for barrel racing. They cut around the barrels, ending up touching the second one and making it wobble, but it didn't fall over, which was good, since the barrel tended to be noisey when they hit the ground.
The two came to a sketchy halt once they passed the imaginary 'start' line, and Benjy had to pat Levis. The stallion had done as he was asked, he deserved a small rest, even though the teen was pretty sure that the thoroughbred could run the course again and still be fine. It was the thought that counted. So the two sat at the front of the arena, Benjy scratching Levis's withers as he watched the other pair in the arena.

Tim sat still astride his mares back. Her dappled coat was dirt streaked and without having to look he knew he would have a grey imprint on the seat of his dark jeans when he dismounted. His mop of hair was stuck down underneath his akubra as the sun beat down on his bare shoulders as he still kept Senkana standing outside the arena just watching and waiting. The other boy aswell sat waiting occasionally moving his stallion over keeping him alert and on his toes it would seem.
The other boy was still standing as Senkana leapt forward and spun around in a seemingly impossibly small circle, her nose was turned towards her flank yet she had dropped her shoulder and was still fighting the boy atop her back every step. Out of the corner of his eye Tim could see Benji move his horse forward almost instantly sending him around a barrel pattern. The horse looked light and responsive under the boys touch. Yet Tim soon moved his attention back to his own horse. Giving Senkana just enough head so that she could lengthen the circle on her own accord, and as soon as the weight was off her mouth she did just that. Moving from a slow trot straight back into a jolting canter, her tail flicked high above her rump as she bent her body around Tim's foot. One of the first things Tim had worked on was the arabs balance then her flextion. It was showing now as she moved around the circle her ears flicked towards the Tim her head just turned into the inside of the circle, all evidence of her recent upset was gone as she moved around the small circle. Picking up the contact again Tim moved her out onto a 20m circle letting her pick the pace.
He grew bored before she did, it was often that way with these two. Yet his patience didn't falter as much as it once did with her and he could almost out whit her these days. Almost yet not quite. So regretfully he was the one to ask her to slow down, he would bring her to a halt and let her stand again. She was clever and he wouldn't let her begin to believe that spooking would let her get her way. She needed a ride in the forest, that generally settled both there moods. Till then however he would let her stand. Her nose lowered using all the extra rein he gave her yet her ears were pricked forward as she stayed alert to everything around her. They were still just a few meters away from were they started and he could see that same boy standing once again at the entrance. He seemed to be watching them. Placing a lopsided smile on his face for a brief moment Tim absently scratched his mares back. He hadn't seen this other boy around much before. He remembered that he was rarely alone, always seemed to be with one of his friends. It wasn't as if Tim had been paying special interest in this bloke, it was just what he did. Profiled, remembered so on. The kid rode well either way, and whilst Tim would rather be in the middle of the scrub alone with his nag free from having to socialize. He would admit the kid could ride and if there was one thing that would bring the human side out of Tim it was horses.
" He moves well " his voice was deep with his Australian accent and husky. A slight nod of his head in Benji's direction to indicate he was talking about the stallion. It looked like a thoroughbred, yet he had the proud form of a stallion and that tended to throw Tim a bit when it came to guessing there breeds. He had always been thrown from nag to nag breed meant little when the horse underneath you only training was as a bronc or backyard terror. Yet he wasn't completely ignorant to the rest of the horse world and could appreciate a decent horse when he saw one. Senkana had long since picked up her head again, the stallions presence once again seemed to shake her awake again and she arched her neck bringing herself up to full height, never relaxing.
